an iphone with too many features

No doubt, the iPhone is a great device. I won’t use words like “incredible” because damn it, apple, it’s just a stupid phone! The reason why I got mine is not because apple’s douchey bragging on how innovative it is (it’s not… Again, it’s just a phone.). I just went for the looks. besides, I had an iPhone original and was really pleased with it.

However, when I buy a new device I, no matter what it is, I expect absolute obedience and flawlessness. That’s not too much to ask, is it? Whereas every other thing would have already been thrown across the room, I have been really patient with the fruity little device. no emotional outburst whatsoever even though it has delighted me with so many extra features (“it’s not a bug, it’s a feature!” - apple): iRetrophone which should be really nice for hipsters. Due to the innovative battery you get to enjoy the charming retro feeling of a wired phone at least once a day. (yeah, apple claims that the battery lasts for 200hrs. If you don’t use it).
Another nice thing is iRattle which I have mentioned before. The phone gives you an acoustic feedback whenever you touch it. Also it makes silent mode not so silent since it vibration creates an innovative new sound experience.
I couldn’t handle those extra features and had my phone replaced but since apple apparently really loves me so much, they provided me with an upgrade on those two features and even threw in some extras: iToast which lets your device heat up whenever you use it and of course iWiggly which makes the use of the home button an extra fun experience.

After telling myself how I should not be a b*tch about this for weeks I gave in to the urge of calling apple car and have that noisy hot thing replaced once more. I did not pay for all those extras so I don’t want them. Will I get a flawless device this time (apart from the awesome experience of being communicatively challenged without a phone for a few days)? We’ll see. Apple, please stop loving me and just give me the standard device.

vienna fashion night

when you live in a city where fashion is not quite as present as in other cities like, let’s say milano for example, you got to grab onto every little straw you can get. one of those being the vienna summer of fashion during the course of which the vienna fashion night took place yesterday. as i mentioned in my last post, there was a fashion show i was really looking forward to. et voilà, here’s how the big evening turned out:

the location was gorgeous as you can see on the pictures above. my view, however, was not. that’s the lesson i learned yesterday: even if you’re invited, always ask if there’s anything you have to do to get seats. i did not do that and therefor failed to get a ribbon that was obviously the magic item of the night to seperate the mob from the holy fashion folks.

well, i didn’t mind, i’m a big boy i can see everything anyways. the only problem is, i didn’t get to take any good pictures for you, dear readers of my blog. (see picture below, i really tried, it didn’t work out.)

am i very sad about this? not really because there wasn’t really anything new to be seen. the mind blowing start of the show was a guy wearing green underwear (wow!) and then there were some girls wearing questionable curtain like dresses strutting down the catwalk. as this was the first part of the show this must have been one of the talented local designers’ creations. see, the show had two parts, one of which had a concept that wasn’t really clear to me and then lena hoschek and versus versace.

as for the first part, i thought i had it figured out as the part where they show local labels and maybe young designers but it turned out that they just threw everything in there. mary katranzou, malene birger, ice watch and dolce and gabbana. it was the department stores that did the show and not the labels. kind of confusing but presumably they were just really desperate to get rid of their summer collections and wanted to increase their sales.

there were some nice really nice looks though. see that jellyfishy dress? :)

it was quite interesting that by the end of part one of the show the location got kind of empty. people left and when the lena hoschek/versus versace show started most of them were gone. too bad for them because that show was really good. the models had some problems with their shoes (a fact that turned our local fashionistas into real spitfires - whatever, it’s about the clothes not about the models or how they walk.) but overall i was really happy to see the beautiful (already familiar since it is the spring summer 2012 collection) designs of lena hoschek (who did what seemed like some sort of 50s/traditional costume clash) and christopher kane/donatella versace.

to conclude this very long post i have the final walkthrough of the versus part as a video for you guys. thanks to my iphone camera in super bad quality but hey, you could almost think i took that video with something as hip as instagram. yaaaayyy (i promise i’ll do a better job next time)

summer has finally arrived in vienna. admittedly, as usual it’s a pitiful one since the weather god seems to love alternately drowning and freezing even more now than the rest of the year but still, you can tell it’s summer by the big number of events happening in the city.
right now there are two things coming up: vienna pride week and vienna fashion night. whilst i don’t care about the first one i’m really excited about the latter.
even more after i got a call from vienna’s versace boutique inviting me to the fashion show tomorrow and informing me that they desperately need my money by next saturday when sale starts.
so while the annoying folk is hopefully occupied running around in questionable outfits on the streets in order to fight for acceptance i will be going on the hunt and with the bf. the great thing about this is that the earnings that are made from selling the especially designed shopping bags go to charity.
if you’re in vienna you should definitely watch the fashion show tomorrow at 10pm at michaelerplatz and join the after show party at yoshis corner, wollzeile 17, 1010 vienna.
it’s going to be quite interesting to get up and get to work on friday morning.:)

medical madness

when i started studying at muw i was really thrilled about all the exciting, interesting stuff that i expected to witness in the course of my new life as a student. i was so enthusiastic about learning everything about the human body, hoped for adventurous times at the hospital (you know, with all that running through the corridors with waving white white coats and beeping pagers) and i guess i, like most medical students, was just fucking dazzled by the shiny white image of hospitals seen on tv (yeah, thank you scrubs)

now, three years into my studies, all that stuff seems really foolish to me. of course i never really expected life to be all fun and games like in a tv series. as for the interesting stuff that is to be learned: that pretty much happens on a whole different leven than one would expect: see, muw trains you for life, which means that the really interesting stuff you learn besides all that magic that goes on in your body (which is, of course, interesting too) you get to know the feeling of being royally stabbed in the back. and that just kind of outshines all the wonderful stuff you learn about molecules fornicating with each other.

when i entered the medical university of vienna i was told by everyone that there are only 6 exams that had to be passed, the so called SIPs. they are written at the end of each year and cover all of the matter out of all subjects (end a little bit more than that since they use lots of old questions and some of them cover stuff that has been removed from the curriculum). personally, i thought that this was not really the kind of test system i’d pick for a subject of study that leads to a job as important as a doctor. in the course of my second year i delightfully found out that they have their means to spice up our testless lives. with seminars, often held by sadistic professors who take the idea of the socratic dialogue to a level where it turnes to sheer torture. the sad thing is that i’m only exaggerating a little. so the combination of fear, pedagogically incompetent professors and the loads of stuff to study for those seminars makes the whole thing an unpleasant experience without satisfying educational outcome as you forget everything you crammed into your head while shedding tears over piles of books. sudden changes in the curriculum and randomly appearing new seminars just make the whole thing a little more exciting.

besides those circumstances that make studying at muw a rather unpleasant and not very efficient (considering the requirements we have meet in our jobs) there is one thing that bothers me more than anything else: my fellow students. you’d think they are reasonable people with high ethical values and a social engagement since they are all on their way to becoming doctors. well, every year when the SIP is approaching the ugly truth is revealed: the students don’t care about people, they care about grades. there’s an uncomfortable sense of aggressiveness in the air and people actually battle for seats in the reading room of our library. of course it’s the university’s test system that drives people mad but instead of trying to change the system and show those who are in charge that their means of education are probably not the best, many of my fellow students put their whole energy into adjusting to the dysfunctional system. and to achieve that they are willing to risk their own health by taking drugs, such as ritalin. at this point i have to say, that of course there are lots of other, more reasonable students. but at this time of the year the stupid nerdy ones just become very noticeable.

of course one could say that their self destructive behaviour is none of anyone’s business but their own but i think it is very alarming that people who will be in charge for the health of many patients have such an irresponsable way of dealing with their own.

the iRattle problem

phones usually don’t last very long when they’re in my posession. in the last two years i’ve wrecked an lg prada 2, a samsung wave and some htc shit. most of the time it wasn’t even my fault. when it comes to phones, i’m a pretty demanding person. since i pay a lot of money for those things i expect them to just work. after all the disappointment i was longingly thinking back to my old iphone original which seemed to be perfect in every way. it was durable, had good performance and it looked really good which is of course very important to me. so as it was time for me to get a new cobtract i got myself the white iphone 4s since i really like its look and i expected it to live up to my high demands on quality.

the style is fantastic… but my love for this device is limited. a few days after i got the phone i realized how fast it burns down the battery charge. 200 hrs standby? 10 hrs video? in your (now very long lasting) dreams mr steve jobs. also i noticed a rattling noise inside the phone which didn’t bother me at first… but soon it just drove me crazy. so i called apple and hat them replace it. which meant four days without phone.

when the replacement device finally arrived i was really happy about it, expecting it to be as perfect as it sbould be as the guys at apple told me it would be tested. but then there it was again… the rattling. oh well, at least i got rid of the scratches i made into the first phone, plus i have a better battery… i thought…

turns out, the battery drains as much as it used to. of course i followed all the advice they gave me before replacing my first phone. but why the hell pay for a thing with tons of functions and cool stuff when you have to deactivate 90% of it to get through 24 hrs?

i should be eiphoric about this phone in this phase since it’s new. but on the one hand i love it because it’s just so beautiful and on the other hand i’m really pissed because of the problems mentioned above. this leaves me in a kind of grayish feeling of neutrality. and that kind of bothers me.

what i want do do... and what i really do...

a very wise friend of mine once said that mathematics are only for ugly people.

this seems very true since all the good looking people i know usually suck at maths. and so do i. i recently came to the conclusion that this rule is applicable to more than just maths.

anyways, as i was (green with envy) watching some fashion shows in order to distract me from studying i came to a mindblowing awareness of what my university is doing to us:

medical school is trying to make us ugly so we improve our scientific skills.

bäm. it all makes sense.

while i’m desperately longing for the gym in order to get my boobs and abs in shape, i’m stuck here (with flabby boobs) in my room, like a couch potatoe, looking at gory pictures of dead brains.

maybe i should just pull myself together and study more efficiently and then go to the gym.

found it:D → net-a-porter.com

two days ago i posted a picture of this beautiful iphone case and wrote about how sad i was about not being able to buy it at my local boutique because they didn’t order it.

well, thanks to the internet there’s an easy way to buy this thing anyway.:)

of course you won’t get the experience of being served by the dull versace shop assistants (yeah, the some of the viennese ones really do a rather unsatisfying job) but i think that’s bearable.

fatty mcfat is hitting the gym again

after a month of lazyness (well it started with the flu, then ended up in sheer lack of motivation) i started working out again today. even though my longed for t-shirt i wanted to look good in turned out to be financially out of reach (yes, the 945 thing) it is just hurtful to watch my boobs get all flabby and small.

so fuck off, fat, no way you’re staying on my beautiful body ;D.
