a few posts back (and yes, i know, that’s quite a long time ago) i expressed my feelings of disfavour for versace’s collaboration with h&m. just like donatella once said i felt like it would “confuse the brand’s DNA”. the one brand, that still holds onto rich materials, unique style and the beloved “made in italy” combined with the cheap ugliness of the dreaded textile giant? it felt like a sting in my heart.
as the months past by i got to see some of the results of this union and despite all my initial scepticism i kinda liked how donatella blew away all of the h&m fuglyness in favour of her own fabulous designs. surely there would still be the problem of poor fabric and grotty quality, i thought to myself. but as the launching date came closer and more and more details were revealed i experienced a pleasant surprise: no pleather was used for this collection and the dresses are made of 100% silk.
just like donatella, i changed my mind and so i found myself standing in line for the h&m store to finally open it’s gates. it was crazy. people were at war and while h&m thought of a pretty good way to keep everyone who wanted to shop the women’s collection from crushing their skulls (differently coloured bracelets granted you 10 minutes of shopping time), they lacked to come up with something equivalent for their men’s collection, which was a bad idea since we all know, how annoyingly agressive some of the fags can be. they gave the word flame-war a whole new meaning.
however it was worth the fight. i got myself my favourite pieces from the collection, among them the t-shirt with the gorgeous miami print, and also got to shop the women’s collection for some friends who couldn’t make it.
and despite all my fears it felt just right.
